The Obscure Profile PII feature allows you to fully obscure identifying participant information. Enabling this feature will mask participants' first names, last names, email addresses, and prevent participants from adding a profile photo (avatar).
This feature can be turned on before or after the participant list is uploaded, allowing you to choose the optimal time.
Note: Once Obscure PII is enabled, participants will no longer be able to add an avatar or edit their own pictures.
To configure your study, select Settings>Project Settings in the navigation menu. Here you can define basic settings, obscure profile PII, add terms and conditions, add team members, and define segments and schedules.
1: Obscuring Profile PII
To obscure profile PII, locate the Obscure Profile PII field in the Settings section at the top of the Project Settings page. Click Enable.
The button will turn red and a tool-tip will appear. You must click the Enable button again to confirm that you wish to enable.
Once Enabled is displayed, participants' profile information, including first names, last names, emails, and profile photos will be obscured from view.
2: Obscured Information
If Obscure Profile PII is enabled prior to loading participants into the study and before inviting other team members, your upload will automatically obscure the following fields on the project’s Participants page upon saving:
1. First Name and Last Name fields are removed from the view. Only the screen name is displayed.
2. Email field is masked.
If Obscure Profile PII is enabled after participants have been loaded into the study, all of their identifying information is immediately updated. If there are already participant responses in the system, those are also updated.
When viewing data in Explore with Obscure Profile PII enabled, all responses will display only:
1. The user’s uploaded screen name.
2. The user's email is masked in their user snapshot.
When uploading participants, be sure to provide all participants with screen names. Screen names should be unique to the study, and should not include identifying information such as last names.
All custom profile fields uploaded in a study with Obscure Profile PII will be visible to both researchers and observers. For information on custom profiles, please refer to the Creating Custom Profile Fields article.
